Introduction to Meghalaya India

The land of cloud hills and springs is the state of Meghalaya (Meghalaya) in North East India. All around the high mountains, the touch of the clouds when you raise your hand, numerous springs coming down from the chest of the mountains, clear water rivers, lakes and beautiful villages like pictures, all these things combine with the endless beauty of nature for the travel lovers of Meghalaya. Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, is called the Scotland of the East. Meghalaya is a favorite place for lovers of mountains and springs as it is located close to the Sylhet border of Bangladesh and can easily visit the popular places of Meghalaya, Shillong, Cherrapunji and Dawki at low cost.

Sightseeing places in Meghalaya

There are many places to visit in Meghalaya. Tourists prefer to visit the tourist spots of Dauki, Shilling and Cherrapunjee when traveling to Meghalaya from Bangladesh. Here is the information about some popular places:

Mawlaong Village and Snongpadong Village

Located 90 km away from Shillong, this village is named as the cleanest village in Asia. While there isn't much to see here, the tree houses and bamboo wastebaskets everywhere teach a lot about the ancient life and the practices of cleanliness. There is a single route bridge 10-15 minutes away. The Umgat River is located in the village of Seongpadong. If you know well, it is very difficult to resist the temptation to go snorkeling because the turquoise green water can be seen with the naked eye. After crossing the bridge on the way, the photo lovers will get a good view of the river and boats from the bridge.

Umiam Lake

Umiam Lake or Barapani Lake is located quite far from Shillong. Lake Umiam bears a striking resemblance to a lake in Scotland seen on postcards.

Elephant Falls

Elephant Falls or Hasti Falls is one of the famous tourist attractions in Meghalaya. The name is due to the stone resembling an elephant near the waterfall. Unfortunately this stone is no longer visible due to earthquakes but this waterfall built in three steps does not fail to attract tourists with its own beauty.

Nangriat village

'Nangriyat Village' is a part of Cherrapunji. The trek from Shillong to this village will take 2 hours but the magnificent scenery around will never make the two hours tiring. Here is the Double Decker Living Root Bridge which is a wonderful creation of nature. Besides, if you climb the rocky trail, you can visit Rainbow Falls. Countless unnamed springs, clear lakes of peacock feather color and single route bridge relax the eyes. To experience the true beauty of Nangriat, there is no alternative but to walk along the trail.
